Denver council vote clears way for grocery store

The unanimous support of the Denver City Council during Monday night’s meeting will allow construction of a Sunflower Farmers Market in the City Park neighborhood, The Denver Post reports.

The council vote was needed to change the zoning on three homes, which will be torn down to build a parking lot for the grocery store. The Denver Business Journal reported last week that Real Estate Inventory in Denver of the Luxury type is “shrinking”  What great news.  We know at Pinnacle Luxury Condos in Denver the sales have been very healthy and we are excited to be feeling this same trend.

The number of luxury homes available for sale in metro Denver continues to drop, according to a report analyzing multiple listing service data released Tuesday.

There was an inventory of 566 residential homes available for sale in December, down from 650 available in November, according to the report from independent Littleton broker Gary Bauer using Metrolist Inc.   data. That inventory level marked a steep 35 percent drop from the 875 available in December of 2010.

Hello Neighbor!

First off, I would like to wish all of you a very happy and healthy 2012. It is certainly looking like this will be an exciting year for Denver!

As you may have heard, the rezoning application for the proposed sunflower market on Colfax between Garfield St. and Monroe St. was approved unanimously by both The Planning Board and The Land Use and Transportation Committee. This would not have been possible without your active participation in the process. In addition to noting the variety of community needs that would be met by bringing a natural grocer to Colfax, Ellen Ittelson also mentioned the over 300 emails that she received in support of the project as a primary reason for support from the city.

On January 30, the Denver City Council will vote on whether or not to approve our project. This is the final and most critical part of the rezoning process. It is essential that you take action to show your support for this incredible opportunity. Here are a few things that you can do to ensure that your voice is heard:

1. Below are some facts about the project to assist you in drafting a letter:
• The neighborhood is currently void of a grocery store
• Bringing a grocery store to the area would reduce the need for people to drive for groceries and would make Colfax more pedestrian friendly
• Sunflower Market is a great company that is known for providing healthy food at an affordable price
• The addition of the market would make the neighborhood safer by eliminating a blighted building that has attracted, crime, vagrancy, and litter
• Sunflower Market will attract other desirable businesses that want to participate in the improvement of the area
• Sunflower market will create between 90-110 new jobs in our community with an average annual payroll of $2.2Million dollars
